You may think why we did this kind of guide as wordpress installation is so easy and can be done less than five minutes to complete. Moreover, some hosting provider offer one click installation tools. Although the wordpress installation is very easy and simple for most people, it still need to take time to prepare. Especially for the one who used windows as hosting server.
Following are the requirements to install wordpress in your hosting account. If It doesn't have, you have to request to your hosting provider.
- PHP 4.3 or greater
- MySQL 4.1.2 or greater
- The mod_rewrite Apache module/URL Rewrite Module for IIS7
Step 1: Setting up MySQL Database for your wordpress site.
You need to do the following steps by using the control pannel that your hosting provider gave you.
- Create the new database.
- Create the new user for your newly created database.
Keep it. You have to use it in next step.
- Database Name ( e.g. my_wpdb)
- User Name (e.g. dbuser)
- Password (e.g. @7XJ39DL)
- Host Name ( In most of the shared host, It's localhost. )
Step 2: Download and Configure
You can download the latest release of WordPress form here.
After download completed, extract it and rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php. Then, open that file in any text editor. ( Recommend software: Notepad )
Change the following values in the file.
define('DB_NAME', 'Database Name');
define('DB_USER', 'User Name');
define('DB_HOST', 'Host Name');
Note: Those values are got from step 1.
After that, you need to configure security key. Click here to generate it or use your own. You will get the key like this: ( Don't use this one )
Save the file.
Now you have to decide how your site address want to be appear:
If you want to be appear in the root directory of your web site (e.g http://www.mydomain.com/), then you need to edit index.php file.
- Open index.php from your wordpress root folder. Search require('./wp-blog-header.php');
- Replace it with require('wp-blog-header.php') ;
- Save the file.
If It is in a sub directory of your web site (e.g. http://www.mydomain.com/blog/), then no need to change anything. Leave it as it was.
Step 3: Upload the files
OK. Now you are ready to upload the files to your hosting server.
Upload all files to your site location by using FTP Client. ( Recommend Freeware: Filezilla )
Step 4: Run the Install Script
Run your web browser. Type http://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin/install.php in address bar and press enter.
Note: If you set up your blog in sub folder, address will be like this. http://www.mydomain.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
Fill the form and click Install WordPress. That's all. Your wordpress site is up and running now. All Done. Enjoy it.
